I’m super excited about completing my first Dresden Plate.  I absolutely adore the fabric, and I love how the whole thing came together – easily!

Blogged all the stitchy deets here.

After the crazy cold snap, we’re warming up in South Texas.  And, the weeds wildflowers are popping up in the backyard.

More flowers and purple photos in my Flickr photostream.

Feb. 4: Snow Day!!!

leave a comment »

We woke up to a white winter morning!  Paul and I grabbed dust pans and went to work collecting snow from the driveway to make this friendly fellow.  He stands about 5 feet tall and has tortellini eyes, a baby carrot nose and a sweet gummy worm smile.  And, our cool friend was featured on the local news!

Lots more pics in my Flickr set.

Feb. 2: Ice Ice Baby It’s Cold Outside

leave a comment »

Though I wasn’t born in the Alamo City, I now consider myself a San Antonio Girl.  (Maybe Lyle penned that song about me!)

Anyhoo, we are not used to cold weather.  I mean, most winters, “cold” means the 40s with a little frost overnight.

But, yesterday it got very cold very fast.  I woke up for my work out and was sad to learn the temperature at 5:15 was the warmest it would be all day.  (Yes, I get up that early to work out – with a group – outside!)

We set the outside faucets to drip to prevent freezing, and this cool ice stalagmite formed under the one on the side of the house.

The one on the back of the house had a stalactite, which was no good.  I ran in, Googled what to do and hit it with two hair dryers.  It didn’t take too long to have water rushing out again, and we’re lucky no pipes burst.

Feb. 1: Play Dates & Cupcakes

leave a comment »

Old Man Winter has finally rolled into town.  The boys like to play with friends in the schoolyard every afternoon.  But, the cold has put a halt to that.  So, I invited them over for an inside play date.  Everyone was so well behaved – except Noah! – and they all loved the cupcakes.

I used Heather Bailey’s Ultimate Cupcake recipe, using marble cake mix and vanilla pudding.  (I wasn’t sure if I was to use instant or cook-and-serve pudding, so I used the latter).  To the chocolate batter, I added some mini chocolate chips.  Frosting was cream cheese, and a cookie cutter made the red sugar hearts on top very easy.  The little heart is made from candy maker’s vanilla chips.

The weather is so glorious today that I’ve spent several hours outside enjoying the birds enjoying my bird feeder.

Jan. 25: Volunteering

This morning I whipped up a few batches of Technicolor pasta for N’s school.  They’re celebrating the kick-off of Rodeo season with a Trail Riders Breakfast this week, and the pasta necklaces are always a hit.
